Square du Vert-Galant

Pink Flamingo Island
Rumors are spreading all around the Notre Dame about Ile de la Cité’s latest surprise. It’s something that escapes the notice of most tourists and doesn’t just show up for the first person who comes along. It’s a few meters away from the flower market, which reminds Anne-Laure of her grandmother’s garden. And actually, there the surprises are, strolling along the water, far from the river banks, right at the edge of Vert Galant Square. Download the Tapage app to see the surprise that’s waiting for you at the Seine.
Still need a hint? It’s pink and it has feathers…

Musée de la vie romantique

Summer in Paris
Welcome to the Museum of the Romantics, snuggled in a small corner of the 9th arrondissement, where it’s always summer. The green shutters, the cobblestone courtyard, the copse of trees: you could easily believe yourself to be in Adenorah’s summer home in Spain! You see the bench over there? That’s the perfect place for stolen kisses on the neck...And speaking of kisses, if we were you, we’d download the Tapage app to discover more surprises via this digitally enhanced reality.

Stoney Clove Bakery

Snack Like an American
In Paris, we can go from one bakery to another without walking more than four minutes and it’s certainly not Natacha who’s going to deny herself the pleasure of eating her afternoon snack with her hands. When she’s here, it’s open cake season at Stoney Clove Bakery, an American bakery that boasts an impressive amount of cream cheese. Natacha’s favorite bakery addiction is taking the streets by storm: we see its cakes everywhere! Have you?

Galerie Vivienne

Magic Gallery
This is where Natacha’s grandmother took her when she little: with her height at about that of three stacked macarons and her face plastered to its windows, she marveled at the confectioners, the artisans, the etchings...even today, the Galerie Vivienne has the same effect on her. And you only have to raise your smartphone towards the ceiling to realize it. Do you see anything?

Palais Royal

Royal Play Area
The Balloon Diary, otherwise known as Anna, sometimes finds herself on the Colonnes de Büren [Columns of Büren], where she’s tempted to jump from one to the other...An excellent way to remind oneself that it’s sometimes best to just play. No hidden agenda, no calculation. Just play. And for us, it’s best not to tantalize us for too long: download the Tapage app, as some typically Parisian pigeons come visit you in the middle of the columns.

Maison de Gainsbourg

Enjoy the ride
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, ‘Wow! What a ride!’”
The Proud Highway, Hunter S Thompson.
This is Anna’s favorite quote and it could easily have been Gainsbourg’s as well. Enough said. Especially when you see the facade of his house in the 7th arrondissement. Thanks to the Tappage app, open the door. And go inside...

OFR Bookshop

Yellow cab store
Adenorah doesn’t frequent this bookstore simply to buy things. She comes here for the gallery that you can find at the very back of the store, where the artists of tomorrow shyly exhibit their work, and where you get the fleeting sense that you’re touching art with your fingertips. We’d love to park ourselves here for a latte, like they do it in New York, and now that we mention it, there’s a yellow surprise speeding down the street. Monster Melodies

Parisian Melodies
At Monster Melodies, it’s not you who finds the record, it’s the record that finds you. And that’s exactly the kind of face-to-face that the owner of the shop sees every day: regulars looking for that rare gem, lost souls picking something up at random, scavengers combing through the old cardboard boxes. This institution has been working its magic in Paris for ages and as for Adenorah, she comes here for the LPs of her mom’s music idols.

La Favorite

The Memory Palace
The beauty of Paris is that each of us can have a place that triggers the deepest and loveliest of memories, much like Proust’s madeleine. For Adenorah, that place is La Favorite, a restaurant with a New York sensibility that’s located right at the Saint Paul metro stop. She has no memory of what she ate or drank there, nor of whether the server was nice or not. All that she recalls are the butterflies in her stomach: this is where she met her fiance.

Place de Furstenberg

The Lucky Charm
It’s here. It’s here that the real Saint-Germain ditches the people on the boulevard. In the shade of four Paulownia trees, there’s a small area that brings good luck to all those who pass by on the evening of their first date. Don’t smile like that, it’s true! In any case, it worked for Adenorah and her fiance. And you see the atelier, over there, right above number 6? That’s where Monet painted his famous painting, The Luncheon on the Grass. Spectacular, isn’t it?

Le Balagan

The Restaurant that Drives You Mad
A list of stunning successes that will make your mouth water: five restaurants in Jerusalem, two in London, and one in Paris. Le Balagan has brought its menu to Paris, at last. At the helm are two of the most celebrated Israeli chefs, Assaf Granit and Uri Navon. Go nuts around the colorful dishes, all for sharing, that will soon pile up on your table: Jerusalem-style sea bass, charcoal-grilled eggplant, deconstructed kebabs. Adenorah’s favorite? The salmon and cherry tataki...All too soon, your cheeks will be bulging and your lips will find it hard to keep closed over the delicious food.

Bouquiniste du pont neuf

Lucille’s Books
217. That’s the number of second-hand book sellers working on Paris’s river banks. One of those book sellers is Lucille and she has the nicest selection of books in all of Paris. She’s been telling Parisians old stories for the last 18 years, or finding them issue number 366 of their favorite magazine. If she doesn’t have it, ask her husband Jef, ten trunks to the right, or her daughter, who’s just one bridge away.

Café de l’homme

The Loveliest of Sunsets
Too often, terraces are so touristy that we tend to leave them for the tourists, which is too bad, because Cafe de l’Homme’s terrace provides a view as unique as the Iron Lady herself. Like Natacha, find a place at the end of the day, right when the sun is slipping away. And if you’re lucky, you might even get a rainbow to appear, with just a snap of your fingers. Almost.

If you can, this is a must-see at the end of the day, at sunset time! You must first hurry to the square “Parvis des Droits de l'Homme” before the tourists arrive and the sun is just beginning to set! The view of the Eiffel Tower from this square is magnificent but it’s really from the Café de l'Homme that you’ll see it in its best light! Get a drink and ask to be sat on the terrace to admire it all!

Librairie Mazarine

Hogwarts Express
The magic of Beauty and the Beast + the atmosphere of Hogwarts + Parisian chic + the mysteries of France’s history = the Mazarine bookstore. There are books all the way to the ceiling, ladders leaning against majestic shelves and tables…Here, Natacha Birds strolls between ancient books and small green lamps. Her secret? Go there right when it opens in the morning. That’s when the light is at its most beautiful.

Sunset Sunside Jazz Bar

A New Orleans Kind of Evening
It’s not the biggest concert venue, nor the most beautiful. It’s not the most prestigious or the most legendary. And yet, Natacha Birds always returns here: that’s the real magic of Sunset Sunside. With your knees on the chair of the person in front of you, a glass in hand, and an homage to Sinatra in your ears...Paris is already far away and New Orleans is just within reach of the music.

La droguerie

Les marchandes de couleurs
Paris, 1975. The Doisneau covered market has only just escaped Rungis. Next to the construction site, two sisters are setting up their first store. Ever since then, the Marchandes de Couleurs has only grown as has its shop. Natacha goes to find inspiration for materials: balls of wool, pencils in every color, paper that slips between your fingers, paper that scratches a little...A real treat.

Junku Japanese Bookstore

The Bookstore at the End of the World
いらっしゃいませ (pronounced : irasshaimase)
This means “welcome” in Japanese and they’ll be sure to say it to you when you pass through the little door of the Junku bookstore. Respond with ありがとうございました (pronounced : arigatōgozaimashita), which means “thank you”. Natacha doesn’t necessarily speak perfect Japanese but she comes to look at the pictures. Literally speaking: different styles of script, manga drawings, the stroke of a pencil everywhere you look. It’s another world here.

La maison rose

The Little Pink House
When she arrived in Paris, Anna didn’t have a lot of things: language, friends, points of reference. So, she walked. She remembers having climbed all of the streets on Montmartre’s peaks when she bumped into Maison Rose [Pink House], at number 2 of the rue de l’Abreuvoir. It’s here that she fell in love with Paris and promised herself that she would never leave. The magic is still alive, just for you: a surprise awaits you in front of Maison Rose if you download the Tapage app.

Librairie Galignani

The Bookstore of Your Dreams
Under the Rivoli arches, the Galignani home has kept watch over the Tuileries garden...for 200 years. With its cinematic setting, the libraries next to it feel absolutely minuscule in comparison. A ramble here feels like uncovering an entirely new world. Anna spends hours here, browsing through old titles, sailing through the pages and dreaming between the lines. Borges once wrote, “I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library” and that’s as good a definition as any for this wondrous place.

Mur des je t’aime

First Pleasures
For those of us who live in Paris, we sometimes forget the excitement of our first days in the capital. So when Anna told us that her favorite work of art was the Wall of I Love Yous near Abbesses, we gently snickered. It’s so touristy! But in the end, when we passed in front of it again and saw the onlookers going into raptures every time they found I love you in their language, we were genuinely moved by the little square’s joy and magic. Thank you Paris.

Hôtel Grand Amour

French Lesson
After L’Amour [Love] in the 9th, we find le Grand Amour [Big Love] in the 10th, on rue de la Fidélité. Coincidence? We think not. Its interior hides one of the most elegant terraces in all of Paris and Anna always sits at the same table, orders a latte with a plump croissant, and then amuses herself by analyzing the conversations of her neighbors. This is the soundtrack to her film, People Talking French. Tagline: C’est la vie. Title: An Australian in Paris.

Bambou

The Chatty Restaurant
Think of a Thai restaurant. Imagine its menu, its interior design, its plates. Are you seeing it? Now, erase all of that and make room for Bambou. This is Anna’s favorite restaurant and we completely understand why. The menu is as carefully conceived and designed as the interior: the cages at the entrance come from China, the walls are covered with travel souvenirs, the smoking room is well worth a look, even if you don’t smoke...And that’s not even taking into account the cocktail bar and the poolroom. This Thai restaurant has so many things it wants to talk to you about.

Maison Deyrolle

The Parisian Bestiary
This is a much-visited location: Dali, Breton, and Buffet brought their paintbrushes and their pencils here. And now, it’s Anna’s turn to walk in their steps. Welcome to Maison Deyrolle, Paris’s most legendary cabinet of wonders. Under cover of a beautiful private mansion in St. Germain, the bestiary of Deyrolle waits for the curious. Shells, gazelles, wild cats, elephants, giraffes, bears, alligators...This is the ideal spot for a truly wild afternoon.
